When selecting low-cost California dental insurance plans, it is always helpful to know what dental companies provide coverage in your area, and what their basic pricing plans are.  A dental insurance plan can be tricky to choose especially when you don’t know about the nuts and bolts of its different aspects.

Here’s an alphabetic, comprehensive list of top dental insurance companies in California that offer low cost plans to choose from:

Aetna Dental Access:

Aetna Dental Access provides coverage to its customers throughout the United States. 2010 prices for Aetna coverage is $79.95 for an individual and $99.95 for a family per year. One important point to note here is that Aetna Dental Access is a dental discount card that gives you savings of up to 50% on all dental procedures and preventative care, and it is not a traditional insurance plan.

American Dental Professional Services:

American Dental Professional Services, a merger between two dental associations, provides a big variety of dental insurance plans and discount cards that are very cost-effective for all the individuals and families.

Ameritas:

Ameritas offers dental insurance plans for individuals and small and large businesses which range from traditional managed care plans to flex plans.

CIGNA Dental:

CIGNA Dental, a highly reliable name in CA Dental Insurance, blends health insurance with dental insurance for combined savings.

Delta Dental of California:

Delta Dental of California is the one of biggest dental insurance companies. Established in the 1950s, they provide low cost insurance, excellent coverage, and trouble-free claims.

First Dental Health:

First Dental Health provides coverage to its customers on the west coast. The company provides a range of HMO-related plans and their exclusive EPO plan that grants you access to over 9,000 dentists.

They also provide discount dental cards for either $64 (individual) or $94 (family) per year. Discounts of up to 60% are available with many first-rate dentists and orthodontists.

Guardian:

Guardian provides both prepaid and HMO-style plans through their subsidiary DentalGuard. Established in 1860, Guardian is known for outstanding health, dental, life, and disability insurance.

Humana Dental:

Humana Dental offers four plans to its consumers that include DHMO, PPO, Preventative Plus and Traditional. Their DHMOs are the most cost-effective plans with a co-payment instead of a fixed percentage but they offer only a limited number of dentists you can see.

MetLife:

MetLife provides a dental plan in which they bring lower fees with area dentists. The package is usually low-cost, but the insurance coverage will not be as satisfying as it is with a PPO or DHMO plan.

Safeguard Dental:

Safeguard Dental primarily provides its services to small businesses. The company provides highly competitive rates for groups as small as five participants.

United Health Care Dental:

United Health Care provides either a PPO plan (you may select a dentist and they lower the costs and you pay off your share) or a traditional plan (you pay the bill in full, register a claim, and then the insurance company pays back).

Wellpoint Dental:

Wellpoint Dental provides plans to its customers in more than fourteen states including California. Operated by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, they provide highly-satisfying insurance coverage.
